INCI name

What is INCI name?

The International Nomenclature of Cosmetic Ingredients name — the standardised ingredient identifier used on labels worldwide, based on Latin and scientific naming rather than trade names.

Why does INCI name matter when sourcing Korean cosmetics?

Ingredients are listed in descending order of concentration down to 1%, below which any order is allowed. That single rule is the fastest formulation check available to a buyer: the first five INCI names account for most of what a product actually is, and an active listed after the preservatives is present at a marketing concentration, not a working one.
